online questionnaire response

The majority of the questionnaire participants said that they would opt to have a school magazine therefore the responses are relevant to these people for the following questions.

If an option was given to pay for the magazine most people wouldn't this would result in a low budget magazine with limited effects and options for distribution and places limitations on resources for the media. To grantee that the magazine would either gain some profit or be sustainable there would have to be a small cost for the magazine so consumer that would rather not pay would be willing to hand over small change to sustain the magazine.

As assumed from question 2 consumers would be willing to pay a small cost between £0.70 and £1.00. which would result in a low budget magazine.

When presented with the question 'What would you like to find in a school/college magazine?' the most common responses were unrelated to school directed but where indirectly related such as jokes about the teachers as opposed to teacher help. The participants that were clearly of an older age wanted information that would help them in the future for example information on universitives or help with revision, where as younger students had not yet reached an age where this information would be of any interest to them. Responces also showed that school events would be of interest, this would then turn the magazine into a bulletin helping students to know what is going on around them with news and current events.

I later decided that this question was irrelevent within a girls school as there would be minimal amounts of boys in the sixth form when in ratio to the amount of girls.

As the researcher and creater of the magazine this was an important question to me as I would find the responces most valuable for ideas and inspiration. the responces I gathered from the question however were not as helpul or guiding as I had hoped for and left me with no ideas for a title so I shall have to search elsewhere from existing magazines for ideas with this topic. Although this did initally give me the idea that for a school magazine a title that was either very simplistic or directly related to the school name would be a good idea.

With technology changing and becoming more frequently used in everything I expected the responces to be mostly via email or via the internet. The responce i got was a large majority oppted for a paper copy but this idea is justified for the concept of transportation as you would want to read a magazine generally in your free time when you are sitting down so to be able to hold the information would be of great ease and availability.

It was unsuprising to find that no one would want to be updated with a magazine daily. only two responces showed that they would like to be updated weekly this would create somme but small amounts of problems for knowing events only 1 week in advance but a monthly magazine would work well with the cost limitations and eliminate the event situation. Therefore this is the most practicle option for a school/college magazine.

This was my other top priority questions that would be most valuable when deciding on the content for the magazine. The four main subjects that would be of top interest to the consumers were... music, by an overwhelming majority, fashion , also by a large quanitiy, news, suprisingly large amount and help with revision/study. Particually fashion and music are not what you would expect to come across in a school/college magazine but are becoming increasing common in all types of magazines. It is now common to find the two closely linked particually in youth magazines as they are most impressionable under these two topics.

In conclusion I will need to look into encourporating fashion and music into school to keep the genre of school strong within the magazine. I will also need to do some further reasearch into generic layouts and use my existing research on codes and conventions.
