Music questionnaire responses

 Magazines from personal experience are rather expressive and from price browsing in major competitive supermarkets such as sainsburys, Tescos and Morrisons, discovered that prices of the main magazines can reach up to approximately £5.00. Knowing this information i constructed this question to see if that effects weather people buy that magazine or would rather buy a cheaper magazine. out of 77 responses only 3 people would spend money from the top price band and the majority would normally spend between £1.50 - £3.00. This is rather difficult as magazines are becoming increasingly more expensive.

 

 For question 2, i had presumed that the majority answer would be 'monthly', but it resulted in 'only sometimes' which then led me assume that people buy their magazines only when they have any interest to them. this could be because of an artist that is featured on the front or because of the content that has been enlarged dramatically on the cover which has interest to the person. In order to use these two idea i will have to do a reader profile for my intended audience to make sure i target them effectively and make it worth while them buying it for that 'only sometimes' category.

This question was important to me to make sure that i had ideas for my magazine title as this is generally an area that i would like audience input for good ideas and a name i like and they do to so it has not so much personal attachment but reader relevance and interest. In responses there were of course many joke and inappropriate responses but also some of interest and inspiration such as 'Carnage' and 'Rebellion' these to me sounded like teenage angst or a rock/ alternative genre which i have some interest in potentially using in my magazine.



To make sure that i targeted one of the most popular genres and go into a mass audience as opposed to a niche i opted for a question to discover what is most popular amongst the questioned. 'pop' and 'indie' were to very strong categories which was not surprising as most magazines you see are of pop artists as one of the largest mass groups for music of the time.

This was also one of the most important questions to my research as in what to include within my magazine for my double page spread. There were a lot more responses to this question that that of the title, which resulted in some useful responses. The most common answers that occurred were, information, personal interesting interviews with the artists, information on hot new artists and events. With all these good responses alot of material was generated to look up and start considering using in my own way for the double spread.

Question six was only a basic two answer question in order to find out which road I should go down in trying to decide to make the artist big and international or a new artist to rake up some interest. To which the majority decided should be a famous artist.

I designed this question in order to decide which style my magazine should go for weather it should be that of a well informed music news magazine with a sophisticated image packed full of information, or an edgy magazine with gossip and chatty text with new artists and out there news and exclusive interviews. To which the responces deiced a gossip music magazine which has a much more relaxed easy going tone about it and the artists are more likely to be portrayed in a way that opens up to the reader and they can feel close to them in a inspirational way.

By choosing 'pop-culture' as an option i believe this misled some of the people because of them misunderstanding what it meant. pop culture could mean the culture of pop related music when in fact i meant it to mean popular culture so the things people find most interesting at this time such as celebrity gossip. It helped that peoples responces resulted in the two best categories i think for a music magazine that of fashion and music events which would go well beside general music information and news.

I will take all of this into account when planning my magazine cover, contents and double page spread i will also use the information to decide who my target audience is and what they like from what they have told me.
